QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Indications of Herbal Medicine

“Herbal medicine” is used for various medical
conditions in traditional practice and among
different cultures. There are about 500
commonly used Chinese herbs and over
several different hundred formulas. However,
most “medicinal herbs” are regarded as
dietary supplements in the USA. No claims of
medical treatments or diagnosis of diseases
can be made unless it is a FAD-approved
botanical drug.

A professional herbalist needs to go through
3-5 years college education and additional
clinical trainings, just like other medical
specialties.

By the principle of Chinese medicine,
personalized formula should be given to each
individual based on clinical presentations and
results of pattern analysis. One has to talk to
a herbalist in person to understand if the herb
supplement will fit your conditions.
